Like some Frankenstein Monster, SHOCK IT TO ME! was conceived by the mad minds of author/promoter August Ragone (Incredibly Strange Wrestling) and writer/walking movie encyclopedia, Michael Monahan (Doktor Goulfinger), who felt that there was a serious chasm left by the disappearance of the traditional Halloween Horror Movie Marathons which once ran at various San Francisco grindhouses in Octobers past, compounded with the loss of hosted horror shows from local TV stations.

After wrapping up "Godzillafest" at the Castro Theatre in November 2004, August and Michael approached Bill Longen (a former film editor at KTVU-2 for the "Creature Features" program), the theatre's events producer, who thought that a weekend of classic horror films was a horrible idea... but horrible in a good way. But, SHOCK IT TO ME! is more than a mere film retrospective--it's a horror event, with hosts, celebrity guests, and a dealer's area--part horror film fest/part horror convention!

In our first year, SHOCK IT TO ME! paid tribute to Bob Wilkins and John Stanley of "Creature Features," which had an incredible impact on Bay Area television viewers and kept Monster Kids, young and old, glued to Channel 2 from 1971 to 1984. In order to keep the memory alive, SHOCK IT TO ME! is forever dedicated to Misters Wilkins and Stanley, who shaped our warped little lives--thanks a lot!

In addition to our weekend-long "Creature Features" tribute in 2005, SHOCK IT TO ME! was honored by the presence of legendary actor Russ Tamblyn (THE HAUNTING), and further enhanced by a monstrous mix of live zombie attacks, undead burlesque, garish giveaways, brain-tossing contests and zombie-eating competitions, MC'ed by resident SHOCK IT TO ME! hosts, Ms. Monster and Doktor Goulfinger.

The second year of SHOCK IT TO ME! burst out of the coffin with an incredible array of pristine prints from the gothic house of Hammer, a rare IB-Technicolor version of MUNSTER GO HOME, rarely-screened freaky features from the '80s, some priceless Vincent Price, a screaming Mario Bava double-feature, and synchronized zombie dancers.

This year, SHOCK IT TO ME! strikes back with a calendar chock-full of rare films and special guests guaranteed to pop the stitches off of a mummy's britches--we're pulling out all of the stops (and a few bloody stakes) to make this the most haunted happening of the Halloween season--so shocking, that we can't promise you will make it out of the Castro Theatre alive!

Director Joe Dante, who recently helmed the wrap-around sequences for TRAPPED ASHES (2007) and the "Masters of Horror" episode THE HOMECOMING (2006), will be appearing at SHOCK IT TO ME! on Saturday, October 6th. The director of such classic and quirky films as GREMLINS (1984) and SMALL SOLDIERS (1998), also created one of the greatest werewolf films of all time, THE HOWLING (1981). In celebration of his appearance at SHOCK IT TO ME!, we will be holding an all-day Joe Dante spooktacular, and he will be hosting our Saturday Matinee Double Feature and our Saturday Evening Double Feature! Don't miss your chance to see Joe Dante at this year's SHOCK IT TO ME!

The striking Veronica Carlson, the beautiful star of the gothic Hammer Horrors, DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE (1968) and FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED (1969), will be appearing all weekend at this year's SHOCK IT TO ME!

Ms. Carlson will be meeting and greeting with fans, signing autographs, and appearing on stage to talk about her short, but indelible, career in horror cinema.

In her early twenties, Ms. Carlson appeared in some minor television and movie roles before being discovered by Hammer's head honcho, James Carreras, who spotted her in a British tabloid, and quickly signed her up to their roster of stars. At Hammer, she starred in Freddie Francis' DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE, Terence Fisher's FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED (alongside Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing), and in the much maligned, THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN (1970). Ms. Carlson also co-starred with Cushing in Francis' THE GHOUL (1975) for Tyburn Productions.

If you grew up in Northern California in the '70s and '80s, you most certainly will remember the incredibly popular weekly horror movie show, "Creature Features" (1971-84), broadcast on KTVU Channel 2, hosted by Bob Wilkins and John Stanley. Famous fans of "Creature Features" include actor Tom Hanks and director George Lucas. With the departure of the iconic Wilkins in 1979, the learned Stanley, who was a writer for the San Francisco Chronicle, hosted the popular program for six additional years. During his tenure, he peppered the show with tongue-in-cheek "Mini-Movies," and stacked the guest interviews with the likes of Robert Bloch and Christopher Lee.
